Halloween Costumes for Bitches with Taste

For the bitches with taste, our favorite holiday is near– Halloween! Scrolling through TikTok, you’ll probably find the same costume ideas over and over again. Although they are all fantastic ideas, do you really want to be 1 of 15 dirty martinis or Joan of Arc’s at the bar? No costume idea is truly original, but the following costumes are cool, relevant, and will stand out!

SZA (SOS ALBUM COVER)
A pop culture icon is always a necessary option to a curated Halloween Costume list. I may be partial because I love SZA, but her outfit on the SOS album cover is so easy to emulate and recognizable–especially since you can purchase the same jersey she’s wearing here. You can also add the water element in such creative ways. For example, I decided to add some water droplet earrings, but you can do blue makeup, fake tears, or wet hair to complete the look.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
Gender-bent costumes, especially those inspired by film characters, are my favorite! Christine Daaé is a popular choice among those with style, but I haven’t seen many costumes for the Phantom himself. This is a relatively simple costume to put together, as you can use black clothing from your own wardrobe. The only items you might need to purchase are the Phantom mask and cape—both of which can be found on Amazon here and here.

VINTAGE FISHERMAN
Sailor costumes are a classic choice, but opting for an old-time fisherman look offers a unique twist. You can find an affordable fisherman hat here. If a raincoat isn’t your style, overalls paired with a slouchy knit sweater make a great alternative. To add extra flair, I accessorized with a sequined Staud bag, but any sardine-themed accessory would complete the look perfectly. If you have a cigar or pipe on hand, they’ll elevate the costume even more.

DOE
Every costume list needs an animal option, and with the coquette trend in full swing (sorry, I don’t make the rules), a doe could be a great choice. If you’ve jumped on the frilly micro short trend, now is the perfect time to put them to use. These Princess Polly shorts are perfect for this costume. Just add some white dots and a black nose, and you’re all set!

LOVE ISLAND
This is definitely going to be a popular costume this year, but how could you resist? This year’s season of Love Island was iconic. And, this is the perfect opportunity for a funny costume. Love Island contestant Robert Rauch’s uniform of overalls and a snake tattoo is easily recognizable. I’ve also included a more feminine option (with the fake lips being optional of course). While a beach coverup and bikini might be harder to identify, adding a microphone and belt will pull the outfit together.

RETRO FUTURISTIC SPACE CADET (E.G. BARBARELLA)
Get ahead of the Barbarella resurgence before the upcoming remake with Sydney Sweeney by snagging an exact replica of the costume from Dolls Kill here. If you’re aiming for a more retro-futuristic look (not strictly Barbarella), try pairing a metallic bodysuit with tall boots and a space gun. The key to this costume is nailing the 60s-inspired hair and makeup. For added DIY fun, you can create shoulder armor or a space helmet using plastic.

ABIGAIL
Ballerina costumes have been all the rage in recent years, but this year is the perfect opportunity to add a twist to the look by going as Abigail from the hit vampire film Abigail. It’s a fresh take that’s relevant, easy to recreate, and delightfully spooky!
